Resource scarcity and environmental degradation in refugee settlements.
"Refugee settlements face a dual crisis: rapidly depleting natural resources and the high economic burden of traditional fuel sources on vulnerable families."
Reliance on charcoal and firewood accelerates deforestation around settlements. Women often walk long distances to collect firewood, exposing them to protection risks and taking time away from other economic activities.
Indoor air pollution from burning biomass fuels causes severe respiratory issues. Additionally, post-harvest losses are high due to lack of preservation technology, threatening food security.
We implemented a circular economy model integrating three key technologies to tackle waste, energy, and mobility simultaneously.
Converting agricultural waste into carbonized briquettes. They burn longer, produce less smoke, and cost 40% less than charcoal.
Hybrid solar dryers extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables, enabling farmers to sell during off-seasons for higher profits.
Introducing electric cargo bikes to transport produce and briquettes within settlements, reducing reliance on fossil-fuel vehicles.
Our solutions are interconnected. Agricultural waste powers the briquettes, e-bikes transport them, and solar dryers preserve the food surplus.
CloudGreen is not just saving the environment; it is putting money back into the pockets of the most vulnerable.
Equivalent conservation achieved by replacing wood charcoal with green briquettes.
Reduction in monthly fuel expenditure for refugee families.
Direct beneficiaries accessing clean energy across 3 settlements.
"I used to spend half my money on charcoal, and the smoke made my children cough. With the green briquettes, I save money for school fees, and my home is smoke-free. CloudGreen has changed my life."

Future developments include introducing pay-as-you-go financing models for the solar dryers to make them even more accessible to individual smallholder farmers.
Help us scale these sustainable solutions to more communities in need.
