The
Challenge

Bridging the gap between global strategies and local realities.

format_quote

"Humanitarian interventions often fail because they are designed for people, not with them. We needed a way to bring the voice of the community into the decision room."

Field teams in Somalia often lack the tools to gather qualitative insights that go beyond basic needs assessments. This leads to "cookie-cutter" solutions that don't address the nuanced social dynamics of the crisis.

block Lack of local ownership

Without a structured framework for innovation, pilot projects rarely scale. Ideas generated in workshops often die on the vine due to a disconnect between design thinking and operational implementation.

Contextual Blindness

Generic interventions missing critical cultural nuances.

Data Gaps

Missing "thick data" explaining the 'why' behind the numbers.

Methodology

Our Approach

The D3 Framework adapts Human-Centered Design principles for the high-pressure, resource-constrained reality of humanitarian response.

D1

Discover (Data)

Immersion & Empathy

We equip teams with rapid ethnographic tools to gather "thick data". Understanding the lived experience of beneficiaries beyond just statistics.

"The training in Borama opened our eyes. We are no longer just recipients of aid or instructions; we are designers of our own future. This framework gives us the dignity to solve our own problems."

Next Steps

Following the success of the ToT workshops, we are digitizing the D3 toolkit into a mobile-first application. This will allow field staff to access HCD methods offline in remote locations.

We are also establishing a permanent "Innovation Hub" within World Vision Somalia to incubate the most promising prototypes developed during the workshops.
